Morocco Featured on the First Global Cooperative Cultural Heritage Platform and World Map

The Office of Cooperation Development (ODCO) welcomes the official launch of the Global Platform for Cooperative Cultural Heritage, an initiative led by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and unveiled in Brasília. This groundbreaking platform identifies sites and institutions that highlight the contribution of cooperatives to culture, education, and socio-economic development worldwide.

Thanks to ODCO’s active involvement in the International Working Group on Cooperative Cultural Heritage (GT-PCC), Morocco is among the first countries to appear on this symbolic map—a recognition that underscores the vitality and influence of the Moroccan cooperative movement.

This first edition showcases 31 sites across 25 countries, including Morocco. The Kingdom’s presence reflects the diversity and richness of its cooperatives, which blend heritage preservation, social innovation, and the transmission of traditional know-how.

“This inscription goes beyond symbolism: it affirms the commitment of our cooperatives to promoting a living cultural heritage while generating sustainable economic value,” said Ms. Aicha Errifaai, Director General of ODCO. “It is proof that our cooperatives are essential ambassadors of the Kingdom’s intangible heritage.”

By engaging in this international project, ODCO helps strengthen the visibility of Moroccan cooperative models and document their contribution to global heritage.

Toward broader representation of Morocco

The launch of this platform paves the way for new applications. Moroccan cooperatives are now invited to submit their emblematic sites, traditions, or institutions, in accordance with the Charter for the Recognition of Cooperative Cultural Heritage Sites. ODCO will support interested cooperatives in preparing their submissions, with the aim of securing a stronger Moroccan presence in upcoming updates.

A strategic vision rooted in living heritage

This initiative aligns with ODCO’s strategic vision, which places cooperatives at the heart of cultural, social, and economic development. “Cooperative heritage is a driver of territorial development. It connects communities to their roots while opening pathways for the future. Our role is to bring this dynamic to the international stage,” added Ms. Errifaai.

Furthermore, the ICA has announced the launch in 2026 of the Cooperative Intangible Heritage List, dedicated to practices and traditions that embody cooperative values. With its cultural diversity, Morocco is well positioned to hold a prominent place in this future listing.
