DESCRIPTION OF THE SECTOR

The number of cooperatives within the delegation’s territory totals 2021 cooperatives, consisting of 1324 agricultural cooperatives, representing 65.5%. They are followed by artisanal cooperatives with 402 cooperatives, accounting for 20%. Cooperatives in commerce and services, as well as those in housing, hold the third position with 67 cooperatives each, amounting to 6.63% for both. This signifies that these four sectors collectively encompass 92% of all cooperatives, while the remainder is distributed among various other sectors.

With the implementation of the new law No. 112.12 on cooperatives, new sectors have emerged, including electronic marketing cooperatives, tourism cooperatives, waste recycling cooperatives, and services in new domains. These additions have complemented the existing cooperatives, such as couscous, bakery, catering, and literacy cooperatives.

Regarding women’s cooperatives, their number has reached 182 cooperatives with a membership of 1059 individuals. These cooperatives are active across various fields, with the most significant being agriculture, craftsmanship, couscous production and marketing, and maritime fishing.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

Raising Awareness Session in
AL Mansouria - Province Ben Slimane

Agricultural cooperatives are considered among the most significant cooperative entities within the province of Ben Slimane. They operate in various sectors, including the collection and marketing of milk, beekeeping and honey production, as well as the cultivation and value enhancement of agricultural products, among others.

In this context, an awareness workshop was organized on June 14, 2023, at the municipal stadium of Al Mansouria in the municipality of Al Mansouria. The primary objectives of this event were to highlight the role of cooperatives in local development, introduce the concept of cooperative work and its importance, and promote the establishment of cooperatives among young people and women.

The meeting was arranged by the President of the Regional Council of Al Mansouria, the Commission for Equality, Equal Opportunities, and Gender Approach in Al Mansouria, and the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives for Beekeeping in the province of Ben Slimane, also known as API FLEUR. It gathered 60 participants, with the majority being women and young individuals. The discussions were enriched by the valuable insights and guidance provided by representatives from various government departments and organizations. Furthermore, success stories from women’s cooperatives were shared.

The Regional Delegate of the Office of Cooperation Development in Settat emphasized the pivotal role of cooperatives and their significance in the realm of development. He underscored their contribution to improving the economic, social, and cultural well-being of their members. Additionally, he provided an overview of the procedures for establishing cooperatives in accordance with Law No. 112.12 on cooperatives. As part of the event, approval certificates for the names of seven cooperative projects in Al Mansouria were also issued.

Celebration of International Women's Day

This year’s International Women’s Day is celebrated under the theme “For an Inclusive Digital World: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”

On this occasion, the regional delegation of the Office of Cooperation Development in Settat participated in several meetings, including:

– A women’s communication meeting in Settat, held in coordination with the Regional Director of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication on March 6, 2023, with the theme: “The Role of Cooperatives in Socio-Economic Integration.”

-Participation in an International Women’s Day celebration in Benslimane, organized by women’s cooperatives and the Union of Agricultural Beekeeping Cooperatives of the province of Ben Slimane, on March 15, 2023.

PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS

« MOTATAWI3 » Program

The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication has launched a brand-new program as part of its initiatives for youth, called “Motatawi3.” In this context, the Regional Delegation of the Office of Cooperation Development in Settat collaborated with the Regional Direction of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication in Settat to organize a communication session on August 1, 2023. This meeting took place at the Youth Center in Settat and was focused on the category of young individuals involved in the “Motatawi3” program. The aim of this gathering was to introduce the concept of cooperative work to the young participants, emphasize the pivotal role of cooperatives in development, and facilitate their integration into the host cooperatives.

The cooperative produces caftans, "boufa" and products from "Rafia" and others. It exports a number of its products, including rafia products, abroad.
The cooperative plays a very important role in the training of women, especially in Rafia products. She has won several prizes and aids, including the INDH and the national "LALLA AL MOUTAAOUINA" prize.

The handicraft cooperative "SOUF OULAD EDDIK" - Khouribga province

The handicraft cooperative "SOUF OULAD EDDIK", located in the province of Khouribga, is one of the most important handicraft cooperatives, which has been able to find a place among the successful cooperatives, although it was established in 2017. It has been able to overcome the difficulties it faces, including the fact that it is present in the rural world and active in the field of carpet production, an activity that is subject to strong competition and several marketing difficulties.
The handicraft cooperative "SOUF OULAD EDDIK" is one of the handicraft cooperatives that has been able to help rural women integrate into socio-economic activity and enable them to earn an income and develop their craft and productive skills.
The cooperative has also benefited from several grants and won several awards that have allowed it to acquire the equipment it needs, as well as to finance and expand its projects, including the INDH and the "LALLA ALMOUTAAOUINA" National Prize.
