On July 1st, 2023, the 101st International Day of Cooperatives of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) was celebrated under the theme “Cooperatives for Sustainable Development.” This day highlighted the crucial role played by cooperatives in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thereby integrating these goals into their DNA.

Celebrated every year on the first Saturday of July, the International Day of Cooperatives aims to raise awareness about the contribution of cooperatives to the major global issues addressed by the United Nations. Cooperatives are partners for accelerated sustainable development, demonstrating their commitment to local economies, civil society participation, and respect for community decisions.

The ICA invites cooperators worldwide to celebrate the International Day of Cooperatives and to showcase to the world the achievements made possible through cooperation. As natural vehicles for collaboration and equity for all, cooperatives play an indispensable role as pillars of economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
